Salty Dog Cafe

Salty Dog Cafe is in South Beach Marina Village, in Sea Pines Plantation.

I am in love with this adorable village! This place is totally unique, a miniature town within big Sea Pines Plantation.

South Beach Marina Village

South Beach Marina Village is home to the “Salty Dog Café” which originally was a gathering place built by the people of South Beach fishing village in honor of a brave dog named Jake. Jake and his owner John Braddocs got caught in a big storm while fishing, lost their boat, and were thrown into the ocean. Jake swam for three days and three nights with his owners holding onto his collar. Nobody understood how he knew his way home.

Jake is now a legacy with his own line of clothing which can be found in the Salty Dog T-Shirt Factory-shirts for the summer, sweatshirts for the winter, and hats all year long. He even has his own plush toy, complete with yellow hat and red bandanna. Cute! My daughter could not resist. If you have children, prepare for their pleas!

We always like to walk around the village… walk into the stores. I try to window-shop only (How many things can you fit in one house?), but last time we went, I left with a mouse pad I couldn’t resist. It says "Life's a beach!" with a drawing of a Chihuahua sitting on the beach.

We also stopped to eat at the Salty Dog Café.

Salty Dog Cafe

The food was good-the apple cobbler that my husband ordered and I shared, on the other hand, was fantastic! The restaurant is not a big-shot, but it’s sitting on the water and is popular on the Island. A variety of food and deserts are served (American food and sea food), menu is fun to read (many dishes are named after Jake), kids will like it there.

It is the legend of Jake the Salty Dog, beautiful view of the marina and the village itself that make this place so special.

Even if you are not staying in Sea Pines Plantation, the village is a must visit.

Be prepared to pay $5 at the gate.

While you’re in Sea Pines, you may as well go to Harbour Town and make a day of it.
